Some thoughts on the ACT

Congrats to everyone who survived taking the ACT this weekend!

A lot of what we saw on Saturday's test was pretty standard, exactly what we've come to expect from ACT. A number of students did report that the Math seemed particularly hard, but it's important to remember that if a lot of people found it hard, it's possible the curve will be more generous -- easy test, harsh curve; hard test, generous curve. So try not to fret if you struggled in that section. If you'll be retesting, though, make a list of anything you remember struggling with! This will help guide your practice for next time.

ACT will begin releasing scores on September 19 -- the day after August SAT scores come out (for people who took the essay) on September 18.

Seniors, if you're applying early and thinking about the October ACT, it's a good idea to check with your schools to see if they'll have your scores in time -- but even if they won't arrive for an early deadline, that doesn't mean it's not worth retaking (hellooooo Regular Decision!) while you're still sharp from your September prep.

But while we're on the subject of October testing -- college folks and anyone else thinking about grad school, October is a good time for a first GRE if you have December deadlines. But the best time for a first GRE is after you've had time to prep! Plan accordingly. :)
